Project: Human-Android Interactions in VR
Overview
The project and its accompanying study aimed to understand how interactions with virtual androids in a VR environment can influence human attitudes and behaviours, particularly in the context of economic decision-making and social interactions.
Participants first took part in playing Detroit: Become Human, a 2018 adventure game by Sony Interactive Entertainment which explores complex moral and ethical dilemmas through the interactions between humans and androids. The study then involved observing and analysing participants' responses and behaviours in a controlled VR environment where they interacted with virtual androids in various scenarios.
The project was conducted in collaboration with researchers from the fields of psychology, computer science, and audio design (to create an androgynous android voice), with the aim of exploring the potential applications of human-android interactions in areas such as education, healthcare, and entertainment.
